  Testimonies of former Christians.

  what's the point of debating?.

  in my opinion it's not to win the argument, but rather to present the evidence and let the audience/lurkers decide the best case.

  therefore i thought maybe the best way to present our current beliefs would be to start a thread where only " testimonies of former christians" are permitted .

  As nobody seems to be biting on this thread, here is my testimony of why I beame an athiest. Well I have to be quick. Why? I am on lunch break......but the reason I am an athiest is because as an intelligent adult I realize what a load of old cobblers it is to believe in a paradise earth. Yet who knows? And yet -is it not foolish to cherish the fragrant innocence and joyful teachings of false beliefs when as an adult we can acknowledge those beliefs are without substance? Admittadly I had to come to this conclusion without " The Watchtower" denying me access to factual material that destroyed my faith. Maybe that's why " The Watchtower" say " Avoid independent thinking?

  Reminder about language and content

  while the vast majority of posts that the majority of posters share are perfectly fine (which we appreciate) i've noticed we have a few cases where bad language, crude innuendo and outright misogyny is creeping in.. this is not acceptable.. we're not certainly not prudish and neither are we going to enforce puritanical rules - sometimes a politically incorrect joke is funny as hell and sometimes strong language is justified.

  but often times content is completely out of place and cannot be justified.. so, please don't post crude content or use expletives just to be "shocking".

  it's childish and immature and won't be tolerated.. thank you to all the people this has nothing at all to do with..

  Slightly off topic, but I have noticed that the trend today for many of our modern stand up comedians is to use bad language and crude innuendo. This is something the great legendary comedians like Tommy Cooper, The Two Ronnies, Rowan Atkinson. Eric Morecambe, Dave Allen, ect ect never had to do.

However Christians are welcome to start a similar thread " Testimonies of why iam still a Christian". And of course atheists should not debate on that thread.

  my own exsperience i can't explain rationally, but as a child many times i had dreams that came true in detail, yet many may explain it away as deja vu.

  Secretslaveclass, thanks for the reply, I agree with everything you said about being skeptic to psychic phenonomen without proof. Nonetheless I gave personal exsperiences of my individual exsperiences, and I put those exsperiences on the line, hoping and assuming surely on this board posters would be able to add similar psychic exsperiences if I wasn't a " deluded Moron. So far I appear to be a " deluded Moron"

  The Rebel. " Nonetheless I believe anecdotes are valuable to the scientific process, even if they are not conclusions. More importantly I hope we both agree the only way anything can be proven is to THINK, with no holds barred? I guess that includes anecdotes?

  Thanks for the link Cofty, which having read it seemed to dismiss heart felt intuition against rational thinking. However I am more interested in posters direct personal exsperience of psychic phenomena than links that try to rationalize that experience away.

  I would add that direct personal experience should be dealt with respectfully, and good examples and explanations of why this was a psychic clarified.

  the wicked rat race of the watchtower claimed another victim.

  despite conducting 5 bible studies, and distributing thousands of magazines, i decided the pressure of being super pious was just to heavy for me, and i decided to just cool it.

  this is when i discovered the business is full of people who are " not very nice" .

  The Rebel. So true, the thinking of the Elders is " How do you add value" to the Watchtower, not how can the watchtower add value to you. So there is no room for " I" in the Watchtower organisation.

  I am confused " Dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power...." What's the story?

  Its much more interesting trying to observe " petty corruption" in our own social environment. Only last week I tried to wangle my way around new law relating to tax issues. My argument was the new law was not justified,
